Free open day at Manchester Jewish Museum with workshops, performances, food tasting and stories, drop-in for all ages.
This is the final day of the Cheetham Cultural Festival 2026, with Manchester Jewish Museum opening its doors free to all. You can explore the galleries, learn about the communities who prayed in the Grade II* listed 1874 Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, and catch the final week of the "Through a Queer Lens" exhibition of photographic portraits celebrating prominent LGBT+ Jewish figures, with the chance to contribute your own picture to it. There are creative activities too, including a taste of work made by the museum's free creative groups, a look at the Iraqi Jewish roots of marzipan with a go at decorating and crafting your own sweets to take home, and making artwork inspired by the Synagogue's stained-glass windows. Through the afternoon the Synagogue hosts live performances: the Song-writing Group perform a medley of new songs and poetry on the history of Cheetham Hill Road at 1pm and 3pm, and MAD Theatre perform a piece created with young people from New Testament Church of God for Black History Month at 2pm. The café is open for light refreshments and drinks, though not the hot food menu, and guides will be on hand to answer questions about the gallery. All activities are drop-in and open to all ages. Entry is free but capacity is limited, so booking online is encouraged; you can arrive any time between 12pm and 3pm regardless of your ticket slot, with last entry at 3pm. Large bags are best left at home as there's nowhere to store them.
