Gluck's rarely performed opera makes its ENO debut at the London Coliseum; recommended age 15+.
English National Opera brings Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride to the London Coliseum for the first time, in a new staging directed by Lyndsey Turner and conducted by David Bates. The opera follows Iphigénie and her brother Oreste, children of a violent Greek dynasty, each fearing the other dead until a mysterious stranger arrives on the remote island where Iphigénie is stranded. It is sung in the original French with English surtitles, runs 2 hours 20 minutes with one interval, and stars Christine Rice as Iphigénie and Jacques Imbrailo as Oreste. Tickets start from £25, with the ENO offering a discount for those aged 21 to 34 and free tickets for under 21s. Children under 5 are not allowed into the auditorium, and recommended age guidance is 15+ as the opera includes depictions of violence including murder.
