A free spoken word workshop for 18-30s exploring place and belonging, led by Gwenhwyfar Ferch Rhys.
This workshop at Fruitmarket Gallery is for 18-30 year olds and builds on themes of place and belonging through spoken word. Led by writer and performer Gwenhwyfar Ferch Rhys, attendees will work towards a spoken word performance, focusing on body language and non-verbal sound to convey meaning rather than word choice alone. The session draws inspiration from Eva Rothschild's work, particularly her piece 'Safe', looking at how relationships to place can be expressed without or alongside language. This is a follow-on from the Be/Longing workshop held on 01.10.26. Those who attended that session are welcome to bring their written pieces to adapt into performance work, while new attendees are encouraged to bring a relevant piece of writing on the themes of place and belonging. Attending both sessions is recommended but not required. The event is free, and the venue has step-free access, a lift, gender neutral toilets, a quiet space on request and sensory backpacks available.
