Volunteer-led charity walk from Barnton Bunker, with a 6.5-mile or 8-mile route through forest, river, beach and village scenery.
Winding Walk is a volunteer-led guided nature and town walk starting and finishing at the historic Barnton Bunker complex in Corstorphine Hill Forest. Walkers choose between a relaxed 6.5-mile route or a brisker 8-mile route, each led by its own volunteer guide and capped at 70 people (140 in total). The route winds through forest, river, beach and village landscapes, with checkpoints along the way offering stamp cards to collect and poetry readings to enjoy, plus chances to spot wildlife and historic remains. Check-in is from 10:30am at Barnton Bunker, with both groups departing at 11:05am, and the walk takes several hours to complete. It costs £10 per person for either route. Organisers suggest bringing water, wearing sturdy walking shoes for woodland and mixed terrain, and dressing for the weather since it's an entirely outdoor event. It's run by volunteers from the Barnton Bunker Preservation Society SCIO, with ticket proceeds going towards restoring and preserving the historic bunker site.
