Lakes, Reservoirs & Riversides in Bristol
Bristol's stretch of water isn't all one thing. Henleaze Lake is the one people talk about, a spring-fed lake where you can swim or try the springboard and high diving, though you'll need to manage 50 metres unaided first. Out towards the edge of the city there's Bitterwell Lake, a day-ticket fishing spot where you just turn up, pay at the peg and cast off. Boyd Valley Lake does fishing too, plus camping in bell tents if you fancy staying over. For toddlers, none of these are paddling spots, they're built around swimming, fishing and camping rather than splashing about. Henleaze has toilets, accessible toilets and food on site, but it's booking required and swimming-only, so it suits confident older children and adults more than little ones. Bitterwell is the simplest to just rock up to, from £12 a day. Boyd Valley is open from first light to dark, good for a full day out with a picnic.
