What it’s like

A 40-minute river cruise on the Wye, no booking needed, with chips and ice cream after.

The whole thing is a 40-minute scenic cruise along the River Wye, which is short enough that a two-year-old won't melt down halfway through and long enough that older kids get a proper sense of being on the water. There's indoor seating if the weather turns, so a grey day doesn't write off the trip.

It's £7 a child and £12 for an adult, walk-up only, no booking required. That's the bit worth knowing: turn up between 11am and 4pm on the days they're open and you're straight on, no faffing about reserving a slot in advance. Tuesday to Thursday and weekends are covered, though Mondays and Fridays are shut until April 2027, so check which day you're planning around.

Afterwards there's a café doing the usual takeaway run, burgers, hot dogs, bacon sandwiches, chips, ice creams, even slush puppies, which will matter more to some of your crew than the boat did. If you've got a dog it can come along too, for £1.50, though places are limited so it's not guaranteed on a busy day.

For a birthday, they do private charters for up to 48 people at an hourly rate, with cream teas on the menu, which feels like a step up from the standard cruise if you want the boat to yourselves.
