What it’s like

A former church turned venue for dance performances, art exhibitions and hands-on classes like eco resin homeware making.

This one's a bit different to your standard exhibition trip. The Mount Without runs a year-round dance programme from IMPERMANENCE alongside art exhibitions, and they also put on classes, breathwork sessions and even eco resin homeware making. It's free entry, which is the sort of line that makes you want to double check, but that's what they say.

The building itself is an old church, split into a Main Hall and a Crypt, so depending what's on you might be watching a dance performance in one space while something else is happening in the other. Worth knowing that if you're only booking one part of the venue for a private event there could be another event running elsewhere in the building at the same time, though for a general visit that's less of an issue.

There's a café on site and the Crypt has a proper bar with spirits, wines, ales, ciders and beers, so it's not just squash and a biscuit if you fancy a proper sit down. Catering comes from local partner teams offering different cuisines rather than one fixed kitchen. Wheelchair access is via a ramp through the gardens on Lower Church Lane, and the path wraps round so you can get to the Main Hall the same way, which is handy if you've got a buggy too.

Parking is the one genuine faff. There's no private car park for the venue itself. Given how central it is, they'd rather you came by bus, scooter or lift share anyway.
