WHERE

West Wickham

What it’s like

A free open park with a children's play area, rugby and football pitches, and a café on site, open from 7:30am on weekdays.

This one's a straightforward open park rather than a ticketed attraction. There's a children's play area for the climbing and sliding, and rugby and football facilities if your lot would rather be chasing a ball than queuing for anything.

The big draw is that entry is free. Nothing to book, nothing to pay at a gate. Weekdays the gates open at 7:30am and weekends and bank holidays at 9am, which is handy if you've got an early riser and need somewhere to go before the day properly starts.

Closing time shifts with the light, and quite dramatically. The site lists 4pm in December and 9:30pm in May, June and July, so a summer evening visit after tea is entirely doable, while a December trip wants to be a morning one. Those times are approximate and apply to parks that are gated or have a barrier-protected car park.

There's a café and toilets on site, so you don't have to carry everything with you. It's all outdoors, so a wet day means waterproofs or a different plan.
