What it’s like

A farmhouse and grounds you can wander for free, with a guided house tour and family workshops laid on at weekends.

The gardens and museum here are free to walk round and open Tuesday to Sunday, so it's an easy one to drop into without planning much. The house itself is a different matter: you only get in on a guided tour, and those only run at weekends, with no fixed times listed.

Inside the sessions there are hands-on workshops and family activities alongside the tour itself, which is the bit that'll likely stick with the kids more than the house tour, if you catch one running. The museum's a good wet-weather fallback since it's indoors and included in that free garden and museum entry.

On price, the guided house tour is £6 for an adult, £4 for a child or concession, or £16 for a family ticket, which is fair enough for a proper guided look round rather than a self-led wander. Just remember the whole place only opens Easter to September, and the garden and museum are shut on Mondays, so a spontaneous midweek trip in winter won't work here.

There's not much to trip you up practically beyond the seasonal dates, and toilets are on site. It's the kind of visit where the free gardens are the reliable bit and the house tour is the bonus if the timing lines up.

Plan your visit

Is it free to get in?

The gardens and museum are free. The guided house tour has a separate charge, £6 for an adult or £16 for a family.

Do we need to book the house tour?

There's no set times given, and it's guided only, so turning up at the right weekend slot is the way to go rather than picking your own time.

What are the opening times?

Gardens and museum run Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30am to 4:30pm. House tours are weekends only within those hours.

Is it open all year?

No, it only opens Easter to September.

Is there anywhere to eat?

There's nothing listed for food on site, so it's worth eating before or after your visit.

Are there toilets?

Toilets are on site.
