Lil' Writing Shed | Creative Writing Courses

What it’s like

A 12-week creative writing course for 10 to 14 year olds, covering poetry and fiction over Monday evening sessions.

Twelve Mondays, one hour each, working through poetry and fiction with a group of 10 to 14 year olds. It runs from 5pm to 6pm, so it slots in after school without eating the whole evening, which is the sort of timing that makes a weekly commitment actually doable.

The course costs £209 for the full 12 weeks, which works out at not far off £17.50 a session. That's a fair chunk to commit to upfront, but you're paying for a proper run at building the habit rather than a one-off taster. There's also an adult version, Creative Writing For All, on Tuesday evenings from 7:15pm to 8:45pm at £299 for 12 weeks, if you fancy doing your own writing while your teenager's off doing theirs.

If 12 weeks feels like a big ask before you know whether your child will take to it, there's an Autumn Writing Meet Up at £25, which reads like the lighter, one-off way in.
