What it’s like
A proper old theatre in the middle of town doing pantomime, comedy, music and children's shows like The Littlest Yak.
What's on decides who this suits. There's pantomime and children's theatre such as The Littlest Yak alongside comedy, music and drama for the grown-ups, so check what's actually showing before you commit to a family outing. Babies up to 18 months get in free on a lap for the family-friendly stuff, but anyone older needs their own ticket, and once they're past 18 months or want their own seat, that's a proper ticket price too.
Doors open 45 minutes before curtain up, which gives you time to settle in, and it's worth using it because latecomers might not get in until a break in the show. It's a historic building, and that shows in the access: there are 10 steps down from the foyer into the stalls, and the foyer toilets are another 6 steps down, so it's not a quick in-and-out if you've got a buggy or find stairs hard going. Prams have to stay in the foyer rather than coming into the auditorium with you.
Full price is £25, with a £12.50 concession, and the box office runs Monday to Saturday, 10am to 3pm if you want to ring rather than book online. There's a café bar with vegan options including oat milk and sorbet, an accessible toilet with baby changing, and a hearing loop in the auditorium. Wheelchair spaces need booking directly through the box office so they can sort the ramp access and seating properly, and assistance dogs are welcome if you flag it when you book.
