What it’s like

Free farm visit with goats, pigs and chickens to meet, plus an indoor barn for wet days and market gardens to wander round.

There's no entry fee here, which makes it an easy one to slot into a morning without thinking too hard about it. Kids can wander round looking at goats, pigs and guinea pigs, then duck into the indoor playful barn when they've had enough of the weather or the animals have had enough of them. The market gardens are worth a proper look too, especially if you've got a child who likes knowing where vegetables actually come from.

It runs 9am to 4pm daily, so you've got a decent window to fit it around naps or lunch. The Hay Bale Café only opens Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday though, so a Tuesday visit means bringing your own snacks if you don't fancy an empty-handed toddler. When it is open, the café does house-made cakes and coffee alongside vegetables grown on site, plus cakes from Bosh Kitchen if you want a change.

Birthday parties happen in the Playful Barn through the café, with snack options included, which is a nice touch if you want cake and animals in one booking. One thing to flag: the farm isn't currently wheelchair accessible.

Given there's no cost pressure, it's the sort of place you can pop into for an hour or make a proper half day of it depending on how the animals are behaving and whether the indoor barn keeps interest going.
