What it’s like
Free craft sessions and heritage tours in a seaside town museum where kids under 11 get in free.
The craft activities are the thing to time your visit around: they run in the half term school holidays and they're free, aimed at four to eleven year olds, and your child needs you there with them rather than off having a coffee. Outside of that, it's heritage walks and tours through the town's history, which is more of a wander-and-look visit than a hands-on one, so it suits a child who's happy listening for a bit rather than one who needs something to press every five minutes.
£4 for an adult and free for accompanied children is decent value for an afternoon, especially since the café and shop don't need a ticket at all if you just fancy a look round the gift shop or a sit down with a drink. It's open Tuesday to Saturday, 10:30 to 4, from late March to the end of October, plus bank holiday Mondays.
One thing worth knowing before you turn up: it's a historic listed building, and the site is upfront that access to some areas is difficult because of the old layout. If a buggy or wheelchair is part of your day, it's worth getting in touch with them first rather than finding out on the doorstep. Assistance dogs are welcome, at least.
There's free on-street parking right outside on Queen's Terrace and the Promenade, with a pay and display option round the back if that's full, and it's a five minute walk from the Blackpool bus and tram routes if you're coming without a car.
