WHERE

Bristol

What it’s like

A riverside bar and kitchen that opens for the season with a food stall lineup that reads like a world tour, plus the odd family event.

This one's more a place to eat and sit by the water than a ride or an attraction, so set expectations accordingly. The kitchen's the real story: Sunday roasts alongside Caribbean, Mexican, Nigerian, Moroccan and Croatian food, which is an unusual spread for anywhere, let alone a riverside spot in Bristol. If your kids are fussy eaters this is either a brilliant chance to introduce them to something new or a reason to check the menu before you turn up hungry.

It only opens April to October, so this isn't a year-round fixture you can pencil in whenever. Wednesdays and Thursdays are shut unless you've booked it privately, and the rest of the week it runs long, midday until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, midday to 6pm on Sundays, and midday to 8pm on bank holidays. That Sunday closing time is worth noting if you fancy a lazy roast and were planning to stay all afternoon.

On the family side there's not a huge amount of dedicated kids' programming, but they do mark occasions like Briz Day with family-friendly activities and bring the Easter Bunny round on Easter Sunday. It reads as a nice bonus rather than the main draw, so go for the food and the setting and treat any event as a happy extra if the timing lines up.

Walk-ins are fine Friday and Saturday, but Sunday roasts and any group of ten or more need booking ahead. That's a fair trade for not queuing on a sunny Sunday, but it does mean a bit of forward planning if roast dinner by the river is the whole point of your visit.

Plan your visit

Do we need to book?

Not for Friday or Saturday, walk-ins are welcome. Sunday roasts and any group of ten or more do need booking ahead.

What's on for food?

A proper mixed bag: Sunday roasts plus Caribbean, Mexican, Nigerian, Moroccan and Croatian dishes, and cocktails if the grown-ups fancy one.

Is it open all year?

No, it only runs April to October. Wednesdays and Thursdays are closed too unless you've booked it privately.

Is there anything specifically for kids?

There's the odd event, like family activities for Briz Day and an Easter Bunny visit on Easter Sunday, but it's not a dedicated kids' attraction.
