The Genie and Other Stories

Exhibition pairing contemporary glass and jewellery art with Heath Robinson's Arabian Nights illustrations.

This exhibition brings together artist Michael Petry's contemporary work and William Heath Robinson's original Arabian Nights illustrations. The centrepiece is The Genie, an installation of 27 individually hand-blown, multi-coloured glass vessels displayed throughout the gallery, alongside reimagined silver objects, monumental necklaces of semi-precious stones, contemporary jewellery and historic jewels inspired by the treasures found in Robinson's drawings. The pieces are shown next to the original illustrations that inspired them, with a particular focus on Aladdin and other Arabian Nights tales, drawing out themes of fantasy, transformation and how stories change as they travel between cultures. It runs at the Heath Robinson Museum in Pinner from 7 November 2026 to 7 March 2027. The museum is open Thursday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays, 11am to 4pm, and tickets can be booked online or bought in person during those hours.
